Basketball Recap: Foothill Falls to Quartz Hill in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Foothill unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Quartz Hill Royals on Tuesday, falling 56-35. The Trojans have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Foothill's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marihya Portis, who posted seven points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Portis has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 28 times she's played. Jaylinn Anaya was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Quartz Hill was led to victory by Ashantee Palmer and Avery Hinton. Palmer shot 50% from the field on her way to 24 points and six assists, while Hinton dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten boards. Those 26 points gave Hinton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samiia Cody, who earned two points in addition to ten rebounds and three blocks.

Quartz Hill's win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Foothill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 37-26 defeat against Rosamond on the 19th. As for Quartz Hill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-41 victory against Desert Christian on the 19th.
