Baseball Game Preview: Schaumburg Saxons vs. Buffalo Grove Bison

Schaumburg hasn't had much luck against Buffalo Grove recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Saxons will welcome the Bison at 4:45 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Schaumburg is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Wednesday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Barrington. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 2, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, Buffalo Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Wheeling on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 4-3.

Griffin Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cole Diaz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Andrew Lee also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Schaumburg's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Buffalo Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9-2.
