Basketball Recap: Sierra Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Janessa Barnes and Alison Cozby

Sierra fought the good fight in their overtime match against Central Catholic on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Catholic Raiders. The Timberwolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Raiders earlier this season, when they won 41-31.

Sierra's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Alison Cozby, who en route to 19 points and six boards, and Janessa Barnes, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Those 19 points gave Cozby a new career-high. Emalina Latu was another key player, putting up six points and nine rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mia Cardoza, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards. Cardoza is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Nichols, who to rack up 10 points along with seven boards and five steals.

Sierra has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. The victory made it two in a row for Central Catholic and bumps their season record up to 11-15.

Sierra wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-29 defeat against Placer on the 18th. As for Central Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-47 loss against Bear River on the 18th.
