Following three years as head coach at Fordham University, Urgo takes over for Steve Turner at his alma mater.

Washington Catholic Athletic Conference powerhouse Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) announced the hiring of Keith Urgo as its new head basketball coach Tuesday per multiple reports.

Urgo replaces previous head coach Steve Turner, who took over the head coaching position at Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) following the departure of Kevin Boyle.

Turner compiled a record of 497-176 over his 21-year tenure at Gonzaga, leading the Eagles to back-to-back finishes in the MaxPreps Top 25 national rankings before departing for Florida.

The 45-year old Urgo played his high school hoops at Gonzaga before going on to have a four-year college career at Fairfield University.

Urgo began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Gonzaga from 2004 through 2007 before spending time as a video assistant and the director of basketball operations at Villanova from 2007 through 2010.

He was promoted to an assistant coach position at Villanova from 2010 through 2012 before serving in the same role at Penn State from 2012 through 2021. In 2021-22 he became the associate head coach at Fordham and in 2022-23 was hired as the head coach.

Urgo compiled a record of 50-49 at Fordham over the past three seasons and earned Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors in 2023 after going 25-8 in his first year.
