Football Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Starts Season with Victory Against Sierra Vista + How To Watch

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They strolled past the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions with points to spare, taking the game 36-20. The win was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 116th in California, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 23rd in Nevada).

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy can attribute much of their success to Jaylen Stokes, who picked up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Sierra Vista dropped their record down to 1-1 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will venture away from home to challenge Crean Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sierra Vista, they will host Snow Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
