Soccer Game Preview: McDonough vs. Griffin

The McDonough Warhawks will head out to square off against the Griffin Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. McDonough knows how to get goals on the board -- the squad has finished with four goals or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Griffin likes a good challenge.

McDonough is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. Everything went their way against Jones County on Friday as McDonough made off with a 6-3 victory. Given McDonough's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 187th, while Jones County are ranked 418th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McDonough hit Jones County with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Ndamake Kassim Diarra (2), Jaylen Smith (2), Rickido Thomas, and Ousmane Ndiaye.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Griffin was not quite Harris County's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 1-0. The defeat continues a trend for Griffin in their meetings with Harris County: they've now lost three in a row.

McDonough is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 23 goals over those six matches. Griffin's loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

McDonough suffered a grim 13-5 defeat to Griffin in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Can McDonough avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
