Baseball Recap: Milford Spartans vs. Hollis-Brookline Cavaliers
Milford had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-11 to make it ten. They lost 8-2 to the Hollis-Brookline Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.
As for Hollis-Brookline, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
For Hollis-Brookline's part, Ian Sinclair tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Sinclair has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Matthew Bergin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Imbrogno, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Milford will face off against rival Laconia at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Hollis-Brookline is set to square off against their familiar foe Sanborn Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
