Baseball Recap: Edina Takes Down Ranked Maple Grove

Edina faced Maple Grove in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Hornets skirted past the Crimson 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 13-2 back in April.

Brayden Sazenski looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Page, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bode McConnell, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.

Edina is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Maple Grove, they moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Coming up, Edina will be playing in front of their home fans against Washburn at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games the Millers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Maple Grove, they will head out to take on Rogers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
