Football Game Preview: Midland Valley Mustangs vs. South Aiken Thoroughbreds + Official Tickets

The Midland Valley Mustangs will square off against the South Aiken Thoroughbreds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Midland Valley will be strutting in after a win while South Aiken will be coming in after a loss.

On Friday, Midland Valley beat Aiken 39-32. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Fighting Green Hornets recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

It was another big night for Xavier Geter, who threw for 180 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in August. Midland Valley also got a significant boost from Preston Smith, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 102 yards.

Midland Valley didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jayden Franklin and Charles Richardson. Richardson has been hot, having also posted nine or more total tackles the last six times he's played. Quentin Cofer was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Midland Valley, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Franklin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, South Aiken was beaten by Gray Collegiate Academy 44-7 on Friday. The matchup marked the Thoroughbreds' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

South Aiken's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Midland Valley, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything came up roses for Midland Valley against South Aiken in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 41-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Thoroughbreds' Jevon Edwards, who rushed for 263 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.2 yards per carry.
