California high school baseball home run leaders: Stanford-, San Diego State-bound sluggers lead state in round-trippers

San Marcos third baseman Ryan Rivera and McClatchy catcher Malcolm Moore pace Golden State with 12 homers each.

Two highly touted players from opposite ends of California lead the state in home runs. As of April 19, Ryan Rivera, a third baseman from San Marcos near San Diego, and Malcolm Moore, a catcher from McClatchy (Sacramento), each blasted 12 home runs in 18 games to pace the Golden State.

San Diego State-bound Rivera has 34 hits in 77 plate appearances and 62 at-bats (.548 average) with eight doubles, four triples and 44 RBI. San Marcos is 16-1-1 and No. 1 in the San Diego Section and No. 5 in the California MaxPreps computer rankings. 

Moore, a Stanford signee, has 31 hits in 72 plate appearances and 55 at-bats (.564 average) with nine doubles, two triples and 40 RBI. McClatchy is 16-2 and No. 11 in the Sac-Joaquin Section computer rankings.

The duo are tied for second nationally in home runs, one back of Garrett Michel of East Lincoln (Denver, N.C.). As of Tuesday, 49 California players have launched at least five home runs.
