Basketball Recap: Valhalla Takes a Loss

After flying high against Monte Vista last Friday, Valhalla came back down to earth. The Valhalla Norsemen took a 55-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Cajon Valley Braves on Tuesday. The Norsemen were down 50-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Valhalla still got an impressive performance from Lilly Dallo, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Dallo has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Songoli EkwoSi, who posted seven points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Valhalla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 24 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

El Cajon Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was McKinley Morgan out in front who almost dropped a triple-double on 15 points, nine boards, and nine steals. Those nine steals gave Morgan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Asia Marie Dixon, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Valhalla's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for El Cajon Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

Valhalla didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-28 defeat against Santana on the 31st. As for El Cajon Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 35-29 loss against West Hills on the 31st.
