Recap: Mt. Eden Monarchs vs. Castro Valley Trojans
The Mt. Eden Monarchs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 46-32 to Castro Valley. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Mt. Eden in their matchups with Castro Valley: they've now lost five in a row.
It was another big night for Naomi Chew, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten steals for Castro Valley. Chew is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Qiomy Espinoza was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Mt. Eden dropped their record down to 3-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.2 points per game. As for Castro Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Eden won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hayward at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. Hayward is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games. As for Castro Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Piedmont at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Piedmont presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Castro Valley in California (Piedmont is ranked 62nd, while Castro Valley is ranked 456th).
