Baseball Game Preview: Whitewater Wildcats vs. Luella Lions

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Whitewater Wildcats challenge Luella Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Whitewater managed to slip by Carrollton the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Whitewater lost 15-6 to Carrollton on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since February 22nd.

Meanwhile, Luella waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Bulldogs 22-2. That looming 22-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lions yet this season.

Luella let Myles Gamble and Zach Williams run wild. Gamble went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Williams went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Gamble has become a key player for Luella: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jayden Davis, who scored three runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-2.

Luella always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Whitewater's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Luella, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.

Whitewater took their win against Luella in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 12-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Whitewater since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
