Football Recap: Sabino Comes Up Short

Sabino extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-6. They were outmatched by the Thatcher Eagles and fell 40-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Sabercats were not able to get on the board.

Bodhi Sanford threw for 123 yards on ten of 25 attempts. Ty Cassidy was his top target, picking up 46 receiving yards. On the ground, Zachari Haley rushed for 63 yards on only eight carries.

As for Thatcher, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.2 points on average over those games.

Thatcher's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Matagaono, who rushed for 67 yards and two TDs. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Matagaono a new career-high. Jackson Bryce was in the mix as well, providing Thatcher with one score.

Looking ahead, Sabino will be playing in front of their home fans against Safford at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Sabercats will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Thatcher, they are taking a road trip to challenge Coolidge at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st.
