Basketball Recap: Truckee Comes Up Short

Truckee lost against Churchill County back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Truckee Wolverines were outmatched by the Churchill County Greenwave and fell 53-5. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 62nd in California, while the Greenwave are ranked 16th in Nevada).

Churchill County found their leader in sophomore Kortnie B. Simper, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points and five steals. The match was Simper's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amillya Bishop, who posted nine points and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Truckee and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Churchill County, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Truckee will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sparks at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Churchill County, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 42-27 win against South Tahoe on the 18th.
