Basketball Recap: Mission San Jose Comes Up Short

Mission San Jose suffered their biggest loss since December 23, 2024 on Friday. They were beaten by the Moreau Catholic Mariners 57-28. The Warriors have struggled against the Mariners recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Moreau Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaliya Kirkwood, who posted seven points in addition to 22 rebounds and three steals. Kirkwood has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Mahlaysia Atkins was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five boards and three blocks.

Mission San Jose now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Moreau Catholic, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-7.

When Mission San Jose and Moreau Catholic next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Mission San Jose will square off against American and their five-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Moreau Catholic will try to stop Washington's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
