Preview: Calvary Baptist Cougars vs. Packinghouse Christian Academy Bears

Calvary Baptist is 0-10 against the Bears since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Calvary Baptist Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Packinghouse Christian Academy Bears at 2:15 p.m. Both teams have allowed few points on average, (Calvary Baptist: 28.1, the Bears: 19.9) so any points scored will be well earned.

Calvary Baptist scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 53-11 victory over The Grove School. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Calvary Baptist had established a 36 point advantage.

Calvary Baptist found their leader in underclassman Kaylin Crewse, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Crewse has scored at least a third of Calvary Baptist's points. Aubrey Gelskey was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine rebounds and ten steals.

Meanwhile, Packinghouse Christian Academy came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Bethel Christian for the full four quarters, racking up a 52-17 win on the road. Packinghouse Christian Academy has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 31 points or more this season.

Pearl Harry continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. Harry is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Miranda Nordquist, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Calvary Baptist is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-9 record this season. As for Packinghouse Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Calvary Baptist have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 43 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Packinghouse Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Calvary Baptist ended up a good deal behind the Bears in their previous matchup back in January, losing 44-25. Can Calvary Baptist avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
