Basketball Game Preview: Highlands Golden Rams vs. Freeport Yellowjackets

The Highlands Golden Rams will take on the Freeport Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Highlands is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against North Catholic on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Highlands was beaten by North Catholic 73-42. The Golden Rams haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Highlands might have lost, but man, Tyarah Woody was a machine: she went 10 for 20 on her way to 27 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That was a full 64.3% of Highlands' points, marking the tenth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Bonnett, who had ten points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Freeport was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Wednesday as they fell 37-31 to Burrell.

Highlands' loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Freeport, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.

Highlands strolled past Freeport in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 47-28. Will Highlands repeat their success, or does Freeport have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
