Alabama, Iowa and Louisiana players hold many career marks.
One thing has become certain since high school softball moved the pitching circle back three feet in 2010 – no career hitting records are safe while pitching records will likely never be broken.
A look at the career records added this week to the
MaxPreps National High School Softball Record Book proves the point. In 2003, Holly Currie of
Pisgah (Ala.) set the national record for home runs in a career with 61. That record stayed intact until 2011 when it was broken by Shelby Holley, also of Pisgah, with 78.
Since 2010, 31 players have surpassed Currie on the all-time list for career home runs, including Ramsey Walker of
Calvary Baptist Academy (Shreveport, La.), who broke the previous record of 87 by Olivia Baker of
Long (Skipperville, Ala.) with 97 at the culmination of her six-year varsity career in 2024.
Of the seven hitting records MaxPreps lists in its career categories, five have been broken since 2010. Pitching on the other hand, has remained fairly status quo since 2010. Of the five pitching career categories, none have been broken since 2009. Some are still intact from the 20th century.
MaxPreps' list of career records takes a deep dive into high school softball achievements with some lists including well over 100 names and the career home runs list including well over 300. Here are some of the amazing career records found in the record book:
Career hits: 477 by Tara Donaldson of
Baker (Mobile, Ala.). She also holds the record for career walks with 226 and career doubles with 135.
Career RBI: 536 by Jennifer Ergle of
Sumiton Christian (Sumiton, Ala.). Her total is 149 RBI higher than the next closest player on the list.
Career no-hitters: 58 by Ashley Brignac of
John Curtis Christian (River Ridge, La.). She is one of five pitchers with 50 or more no-hitters in her career.
Career perfect games: 29 by Paige Stamp of
Lisbon (Iowa). Her mark is one of the oldest career records in the books.
Career strikeouts: 2,463 by Hillary Phillips of
Ider (Ala.). Ider also holds the record for career wins with 197.
