Basketball Recap: Towanda Comes Up Short

Towanda and River Valley squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Towanda had to settle for second. They had to suffer through a 74-30 loss at the hands of the River Valley Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Black Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while the Panthers are ranked 30th).

River Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenady Kitner led the charge by shooting 40% from the field on her way to 22 points. That's the most points Kitner has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Persichetti, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists.

Towanda's defeat dropped their record down to 14-10. As for River Valley, their win bumped their record up to 27-1.

Towanda does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for River Valley, they will challenge Trinity on Tuesday. River Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
