Recap: Mission Bay Buccaneers vs. Coronado Islanders

Even though the Mission Bay Buccaneers have not done well against the Coronado Islanders recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Mission Bay breezed by Coronado at home to the tune of 36-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Mission Bay has posted since December 16, 2023.

Mission Bay found their leader in underclassman Audie Caban, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jackie Quiachon was another key contributor, scoring five points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Several Islanders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Susanna Pate, who scored two points along with five steals. Pate is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Selena Herrera, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Mission Bay's win bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Coronado, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which is still a better percentage than their 1-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mission Bay won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Bernstein at 6:00 p.m. on January 13th. Bernstein will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Coronado, they will head out on the road to square off against Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
