Baseball Game Preview: Appling County Pirates vs. Cook Hornets

For the first time this season, Appling County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Cook Hornets at 6:00 p.m.

Last Friday, Appling County came up short against Ware County and fell 8-3. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Cook had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted against the Bulldogs since March 3, 2020.

Cook pushed their record up to 9-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Appling County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Appling County skirted past Cook 1-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Does Appling County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cook turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
