Basketball Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short

Covenant Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against the Huss Huskies, falling 81-55.

Despite the loss, Covenant Day still got an impressive performance from Dylan Thurman, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 22 points. Thurman is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Thompson, who posted 13 points.

Leading Huss to victory were Zaiyir 'Zii' Phillips and Jaleel Smith. Phillips shot 57% from the field en route to 22 points along with seven assists and six steals, while Smith dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists. Thanks to that strong game, Phillips now owns an excellent 47.3% field goal percentage. Kamari Falls also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Covenant Day's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Huss, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Covenant Day will host Gaston Day at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will need to watch out since the Spartans have now posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Huss, they will welcome Palisades at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
