Basketball Recap: St. Marys Comes Up Short

St. Marys was the 56-36 winner over Clearfield when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Marys Flying Dutch fell 57-44 to the Clearfield Bison on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Flying Dutch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 315th in Pennsylvania, while the Bison are ranked 117th in Pennsylvania).

Leading Clearfield to victory were Mia Helsel and Eve Helsel. Mia went 6-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and six rebounds, while Eve went 9-for-13 on her way to 21 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most points Mia has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sonny Diehl, who scored eight points along with 12 boards and three steals.

St. Marys' loss dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Clearfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.

St. Marys does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Clearfield, they will venture away from home to square off against Carrick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
