Basketball Recap: Kayleigh Solano's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chico over Shasta

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Chico can now relate to. They fell to the Shasta Wolves 64-58. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, with their most recent defeat being a 40-38 loss two weeks ago.

Chico lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Kayleigh Solano, who on her way to 25 points along with five boards and four steals. Chico is 8-3 when Solano posts 15 or more points, but 8-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Corrina Stephens, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Chico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Shasta had a senior duo take command as Cali Soule posted 15 points and Bria Tate scored 15 points. Ava Mena was another key player, putting up nine points.

Chico's defeat dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Shasta, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

As of now, neither Chico nor Shasta have any future games scheduled.
