Baseball Recap: Carrollton Comes Up Short

Carrollton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Jersey on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Hawks in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost three in a row.

Eli Cox was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off only one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Cox wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brady Clendenen, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Carrollton's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Jersey, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-5.

Carrollton has already played their next matchup, a 7-3 victory against Carlinville on the 7th. As for Jersey, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-3 defeat against Jacksonville on the 2nd.
