Preview: Surry Central Golden Eagles vs. North Surry Greyhounds
Surry Central is 2-8 against North Surry since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Surry Central Golden Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the North Surry Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
Surry Central can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest on Friday. They breezed by Forbush at home to the tune of 77-22. That looming 77-22 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Surry Central yet this season.
Surry Central can attribute much of their success to Ayden Wilmoth, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds, and Tripp Mcmillen, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Mcmillen is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Jewell, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, North Surry stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat West Wilkes 81-40 on the road. That 41 points margin sets a new team best for North Surry this season.
North Surry's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cade Atkins led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Atkins has scored all season. Kam Mcknight was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Surry Central's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for North Surry, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Surry Central have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 42.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like North Surry struggles in that department as they've drained 46.9% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Surry Central came up short against North Surry in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 55-49. Thankfully for Surry Central, Jahreece Lynch (who scored 13 points along with seven steals and six assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
