Softball Recap: Telfair County Takes a Loss

Telfair County dropped down to 10-7 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Wilcox County Patriots by a score of 5-4. The Trojans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Keely Johnson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Kalyn Deeds was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

As for Wilcox County, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games.

On Wilcox County's side, Zariah Martin and Ava McGinnis did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went 4-for-5 with three runs and one double, while McGinnis went 4-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those four hits gave McGinnis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kamauri Martin, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Telfair County will welcome Jeff Davis at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wilcox County, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Treutlen at 6:00 p.m. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
