Basketball Recap: Ceres Comes Up Short

Ceres was the 69-46 winner over Beyer when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Ceres Bulldogs fell 58-51 to the Beyer Patriots on Tuesday.

When it comes to explaining why Ceres lost, don't look at Sovannary Carter. Despite the final result, she posted 21 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Carter a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Staggs, who scored nine points and four steals.

Beyer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kylie Kulina led the charge by going 9-for-17 en route to 25 points and five rebounds. Kulina is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Alana Dancer was another key player, going 6-for-13 on her way to 15 points and four steals.

Ceres' loss dropped their record down to 20-7. As for Beyer, they pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home.

Coming up, Ceres will host Central Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ceres is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season. As for Beyer, they are taking a road trip to take on Lathrop at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Beyer also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 51.1 points per game.
