Softball Recap: Woodward Academy Has No Trouble Against Arabia Mountain

Woodward Academy had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Arabia Mountain on Tuesday. The War Eagles blew past the Rams 17-1. Considering the War Eagles have won four matches by more than 12 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cymone Woodfaulk made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Woodward Academy got a massive performance out of Eloise Nichols, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Nichols a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maya Hatch, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Woodward Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Arabia Mountain, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Woodward Academy will host Chamblee at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arabia Mountain, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Cedar Grove at 5:00 p.m. The Saints have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.78 runs per game on average), something the Rams will no doubt try to take advantage of.
