Baseball Game Preview: Hampden Broncos vs. Lewiston Blue Devils

The Hampden Broncos will take on the Lewiston Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Hampden is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Mt. Ararat, who was ranked seventh at the time (Hampden was ranked 20th). The Broncos came up short against the Eagles on Wednesday, falling 11-1. The matchup marked the Broncos' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Lewiston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat. They lost 32-0 to Oxford Hills.

Hampden's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Lewiston, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.

Lewiston's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Hampden has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Lewiston, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Hampden keep running through batters, or will the Blue Devils buck the trend?

Hampden was able to grind out a solid win over Lewiston in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, winning 6-1. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
