Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Mt. Diablo

Mt. Diablo had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They rang in the new year with a 47-34 victory over the Bethel Jaguars. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Jaguars are ranked 490th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Diablo got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalie Dance out in front who posted 27 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which Dance has scored at least a third of Mt. Diablo's points. Another player making a difference was Carlesia Adams, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 boards.

Mt. Diablo is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Bethel, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.

Mt. Diablo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-45 defeat against Dublin on the 6th. As for Bethel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-37 loss against Salesian College Preparatory on the 7th.
