Softball Recap: Omaha Westside Triumphs

Omaha Westside came out on top against Omaha Central on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Warriors took their contest against the Eagles 11-6. That's more bragging rights for the Warriors, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ruby Mann made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and not a single walk). Mann was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hadley Hansen was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double. Baylee Heffernan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Omaha Westside was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Omaha Central only posted a batting average of .192.

The win made it two in a row for Omaha Westside and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Omaha Central, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Omaha Westside will venture away from home to take on Lincoln East at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Omaha Central, they are taking a road trip to square off against Bryan at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
