Basketball Recap: Coachella Valley Triumphs

Coachella Valley hadn't done well against La Quinta recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Coachella Valley Mighty Arabs managed a 44-39 victory over the La Quinta Blackhawks. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-31 last Tuesday.

La Quinta's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who posted 15 points in addition to six boards and five steals, and Sophie Barrow, who put up seven points along with 15 rebounds and five assists. That was a full 38.5% of La Quinta's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Julia Alvarez-Ladd, who posted seven points and six steals.

The win made it two in a row for Coachella Valley and bumps their season record up to 9-2. As for La Quinta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Coachella Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-48 defeat against Stevenson on the 28th. As for La Quinta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 39-27 victory against Lakeside on the 28th.
