Baseball Recap: Monroe Area Wins Going Away Against Rockdale County

Monroe Area had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on the Rockdale County Bulldogs with a sharp 11-2 victory on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Purple Hurricanes have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since April 5, 2021.

Monroe Area got a great performance from Ayden Tabone as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Tabone has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carson Vandiver, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Trennon Henson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Monroe Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockdale County only posted an OBP of .308.

Monroe Area's record now sits at 10-16. As for Rockdale County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.

Monroe Area will venture away from home to square off against Athens Christian at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rockdale County, they will welcome Spalding at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
