High school football: Donte Ferrell of Ohio remains at the top of national receiving yardage leaderboard

Woodward High School junior went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season over the weekend.

According to statistics submitted to MaxPreps, Donte Ferrell of Woodward (Cincinnati, Ohio) leads high school football nationally in receiving yardage this season. In his last outing against Western Hills, the 6-foot-2 junior hauled in 19 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns, bringing his season total to 1,138 yards.

Ferrell has caught 54 passes through six games, nine of them going for touchdowns. His season-best outing came in early September during a win over Bethel-Tate when he reeled in nine balls for 280 yards and two scores. 

Wasatch (Heber City, Utah) senior Crew Erickson is Ferrell's biggest threat at the moment, trailing by just 19 yards. Erickson has 82 catches for 1,119 yards and 12 touchdowns in seven games.

Erickson's best performance came two weeks ago in a 55-17 win over Maple Mountain, catching 16 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns.

Owen Winter of Southern Huntingdon County (Three Springs, Pa.) is No. 3 with 41 receptions for 938 yards and 11 scores during a 3-2 start to the season for the Rockets.
