Where every starting quarterback in Super Bowl history played high school football

Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts will be only signal callers from Texas to play in multiple Super Bowls.

When the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles square off Sunday in New Orleans, starting quarterbacks from the same state will be going head-to-head for the fifth time in Super Bowl history.

The other four that featured starting signal callers from the same state were Super Bowl XIX (Joe Montana/Dan Marino), Super Bowl XXV (Jeff Hostetler/Jim Kelly), Super Bowl LIII (Tom Brady/Jared Goff) and Super Bowl LVII (Patrick Mahomes/Jalen Hurts).

Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 38-35 win over Hurts and the Eagles two years ago to win his second of three Super Bowls. He has been named the MVP in all three Super Bowl wins and trails only Tom Brady, who has five MVPs in the NFL's biggest game.

A 2014 graduate of Whitehouse (Texas), Mahomes was named the MaxPreps National Male Athlete of the Year after being a standout in three sports during his senior season.

Hurts played for his father Averion Hurts at Channelview (Texas) and accounted for 7,271 yards of total offense and 91 touchdowns over his final two years.

The Lone Star State has produced the fourth-most starting quarterbacks in Super Bowl history with five. Drew Brees, Nick Foles and Matthew Stafford join Mahomes and Hurts.

California has the most with 13 led by Brady, Goff, John Elway and Aaron Rodgers.

Pennsylvania checks in with the second-most with nine headlined by Hall of Famers Kelly, Marino, Montana, Joe Namath and Johnny Unitas.

Louisiana has the third-most with seven led by Terry Bradshaw, Eli Manning and Peyton Manning.

In total, 23 different states have produced at least one starting quarterback in Super Bowl history with 13 having more than one.

Florida is surprisingly among 27 states that have not had one signal caller start a Super Bowl.
