Basketball Recap: Garces Memorial Comes Up Short

Garces Memorial lost against Liberty back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Garces Memorial Rams were dealt a 57-24 loss at the hands of the Liberty Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1056th, while the Patriots are ranked 410th).

Liberty was led to victory by Jannah Davis and Nevaeh Matthews. Davis went 5 for 12 to rack up 10 points in addition to five assists and five steals, while Matthews posted ten points and five steals. What's more, Matthews also posted a 67% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Carter, who put up six points and five rebounds.

Garces Memorial has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 16 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-22 record this season. As for Liberty, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garces Memorial will square off against Bakersfield Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty, they will face off against Stockdale at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
