Basketball Recap: Santa Margarita Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

After losing to Cerritos the last time they met, Santa Margarita decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Santa Margarita Eagles strolled past the Cerritos Dons with points to spare on Wednesday, taking the game 59-41. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Dons are ranked 255th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Santa Margarita has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Cerritos, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-4.

Santa Margarita will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Cathedral Catholic at 1:30 p.m. on December 26th. Cathedral Catholic will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Santa Margarita surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cerritos, they and University will face off at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played.
