Basketball Recap: Capistrano Valley Cougars vs. El Toro Chargers

The Capistrano Valley Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight loss. They were beaten by El Toro 69-20. Capistrano Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-8.

Leading El Toro to victory were Mia Cubacub and Bridget Boyd. Cubacub scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals, while Boyd scored 23 points along with two steals. Delyla Cabrera was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with four steals.

Capistrano Valley's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-15. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.4 points per game. As for El Toro, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season.

Capistrano Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. El Toro will be playing in front of their home fans against the Diablos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mission Viejo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 926th, while the Chargers are ranked 340th).
