Basketball Game Preview: Santa Catalina Cougars vs. St. Francis Sharks

The Santa Catalina Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the St. Francis Sharks on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Santa Catalina has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while St. Francis will arrive with 12 straight victories.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 53-11, which was the final score in Santa Catalina's tilt against King City on Monday.

Meanwhile, St. Francis beat Greenfield 53-44 on Friday. Given the Sharks' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 378th, while the Bruins are ranked 1071st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Francis pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points over those games. As for Santa Catalina, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Santa Catalina was dealt a bruising 59-15 defeat at the hands of St. Francis in their previous meeting back in January. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Santa Catalina was down 31-8.
