Basketball Game Preview: Clairton Bears vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

Two dominant guards in Iyanna Wade and Bella Dumbroski are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Clairton Bears will host the Serra Catholic Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Clairton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Monessen to the tune of 91-57 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bears who have now won five contests in a row.

Wade was her usual excellent self, putting up 60 points. The matchup was her 39th in a row with at least ten points. K Fuqua was another key player, posting 21 points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Serra Catholic, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They took down West Greene 68-50 on Tuesday.

Serra Catholic found their leader in freshman Dumbroski, who went 15 of 27 on her way to 34 points along with seven assists and seven boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Dumbroski has scored at least a third of Serra Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Genes, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds.

Serra Catholic's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Clairton, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Clairton was able to grind out a solid victory over Serra Catholic when the teams last played back in December of 2024, winning 69-56. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Dumbroski, who went 10 of 21 on her way to 24 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.
