The biggest upset of the week belonged to Watertown-Mayer, who took down 102nd ranked Watertown-Mayer, 28-15.
Montgomery-Lonsdale extended the longest winning streak in Minnesota River this week by beating Le Sueur-Henderson, 29-6. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Mayer Lutheran's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jeremiah Grimsley threw for 110 yards and Anthony Gruenhagen had 62 yards receiving. On the ground Philip Burfeind chipped in 106 yards. Tanner Luebke helped Mayer Lutheran's passing attack out by catching two balls for 31 yards.
The Crusaders' Grimsley and Luebke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grimsley has thrown for 581 yards this season, while Luebke, a 5-foot-6 receiver, has 11 catches for 274 yards. The Royals' Joe Reinert leads the league in rushing yards with 632.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Montgomery-Lonsdale takes on second place Sibley East. Last week, Montgomery-Lonsdale beat the Giants, while Sibley East bested Watertown-Mayer.
The Wolverines moved up to 124 from 158 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Minnesota River. Sibley East climbed the ranks as a result of a 28-15 win over Craig Johnson's team.
