Preview: Mars Fightin' Planets vs. Shaler Area Titans

Mars is 6-0 against the Titans since December of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Mars Fightin' Planets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Shaler Area Titans at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Mars focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Monday.

Last Monday, things could have been worse for Mars, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-35 loss to the River Hawks. While losing is never fun, Mars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the River Hawks are ranked 92nd).

Despite the loss, Mars saw an underclassman step up: Alexis Cashdollar almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Cashdollar scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Mya Moore, who scored four points along with two blocks.

Meanwhile, Shaler Area had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 50-14 win over New Castle at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Shaler Area has managed all season.

Mars has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Shaler Area, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13.

Mars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Titans in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 45-42. Will Mars repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
