Football Recap: Marietta Skates Past Cherokee with Ease + How To Watch

Marietta had to skate by with only a one-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 44-point drubbing they dealt Cherokee on Friday. The Blue Devils took their matchup with ease, bagging a 52-8 win over the Warriors. That 44 point margin sets a new team best for the Blue Devils this season.

Titus Grant was his usual excellent self, rushing for 136 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. He has become a key player for Marietta: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Snipes, who threw for 110 yards and a pair of TDs on perfect 5-for-5 passing.

Marietta didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Cherokee to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Merrick Ham, Jude Morris, Jamine Solomon, Alec Huff, and Caleb Graham, who each logged one passes deflected. Marietta has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.59 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.59 in their last three games.

The victory (which was Marietta's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.8 points over those games. As for Cherokee, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Looking ahead, Marietta will look to defend their home field on Friday against North Paulding at 7:30 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 901 yards in their previous games. Cherokee does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
