Calhoun is 9-1 against Adairsville since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Yellow Jackets will head out to face off against the Tigers at 5:55 p.m.
Calhoun fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Heritage on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Generals. The Yellow Jackets have struggled against the Generals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Breanna Baker and Maggy Abernathy did some serious damage despite the final result: Baker went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Abernathy went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Jordan Baker was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Adairsville was able to grind out a solid win over Northwest Whitfield on Monday, taking the game 8-4. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won three in a row.
Ashlyn Carlton made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ansley Powell was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Hill, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Adairsville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.
Calhoun now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Adairsville, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Calhoun might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Adairsville when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
