Recap: Davis Blue Devils vs. Vista del Lago Eagles
The Davis Blue Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 58-33 walloping at the hands of Vista del Lago. While losing is never fun, Davis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 698th, while Vista del Lago is ranked 184th).
Despite the loss, Davis saw an underclassman step up: Sonia Clayton scored 10 points along with 8 rebounds. Clayton scored a full 30.3% of Davis' points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Eva Makus, who scored 7 points.
Even though they lost, Davis were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vista del Lago only pulled down six.
Vista del Lago can attribute much of their success to Kelsey Brooks, who scored 19 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Lyons, who scored 11 points.
Davis' defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Vista del Lago, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davis will take on Rocklin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocklin's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Davis' offense will have their work cut out for Davis. As for Vista del Lago, they will be playing at home against East Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in East Union's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
