Basketball Game Preview: Greensburg Salem Golden Lions vs. McKeesport Tigers

The Greensburg Salem Golden Lions will venture away from home to square off against the McKeesport Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Greensburg Salem is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Penn-Trafford on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Greensburg Salem lost 57-34 to Penn-Trafford. While losing is never fun, the Golden Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Warriors are ranked 13th).

Mya Heasley put forth a good effort for the losing side as she went 7 for 17 on her way to 19 points. Bella Dinkel was another key player, putting up two points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Greensburg Salem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, McKeesport came up short against Kiski Area on Tuesday, falling 52-29.

Greensburg Salem has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for McKeesport, their loss dropped their record down to 4-8.

Greensburg Salem strolled past McKeesport when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 47-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greensburg Salem since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
