Basketball Game Preview: Northern Cambria Colts vs. Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays

The Northern Cambria Colts will square off against the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays at 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday. Northern Cambria hasn't scored more than 23 points for seven games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Northern Cambria is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Conemaugh Township two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Northern Cambria might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Conemaugh Township an easy 41-20 victory. The Colts were down 35-13 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Meanwhile, Conemaugh Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 48-42 to Ferndale.

Northern Cambria will need focus on slowing down Madison McCleester, one of several Conemaugh Valley players who made an impact when they last played. She posted 11 points. McCleester is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Illy Darcangelo, who earned 12 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Conemaugh Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Conemaugh Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Northern Cambria, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Northern Cambria and Conemaugh Valley were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Northern Cambria came up empty-handed after a 29-28 loss.
