Football Recap: Layn Todd's Big Game Can't Quite Lead St. Francis over Rawlins County

St. Francis extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 3-3. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-24 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rawlins County Buffaloes. The Indians lost against the Buffaloes in their previous head to head back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 50-12 score last time.

St. Francis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layn Todd, who rushed for 126 yards and two scores. Todd has become a key player for the Indians: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zylas Martinez, who rushed for 85 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.

As for Rawlins County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games.

Dominique Paz was his usual excellent self, rushing for 204 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 23 yards and three TDs. Those 204 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Francis will take on Hoxie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis will be up against Hoxie's rather soft defense (which has allowed 40 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Rawlins County, they will challenge Decatur Community at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
